No More Ghosts

My classroom has white boards in it. I have never used white boards regularly before, so I’m experiencing a lot of new learning – some by trial-and-error, some by research. One of my big questions was: how do I get the smudges and ghosts of former writing off the board? I spent a good hour or so reading about it. THIS was easily my favorite site about it. Whoever did these tests really took it seriously.

The most promising method I read about was rubbing alcohol. It’s cheap, effective, and easily attainable. You’re supposed to make sure you get 91%, not the weaker stuff. I headed to the drug store and got some.

It worked! My white boards are beautiful! I need to get a spray bottle for ease of application.

The biggest drawback is a strong alcohol smell, but once I brew a pot of coffee, all I smell is hazelnut deliciousness.

The right half is quite dirty, but it only looks like a shadow in this picture.

Wow – that chart is so comprehensive! I am impressed with their dedication to thorough testing. I have some little metal magnet/dry erase boards at school that are clean but scratched beyond repair. I should have read that site first.

Just looking at that whiteboard, I want to draw a cow on it. 🙂

We have a small white board at home – I just use Mr. Clean magic eraser on it!

Now that you remind me, I miss your hazelnut air freshener. Sigh.

Those bottles of board cleaner they sell at “Teacher Stores” are hugely overpriced if 91% rubbing alcohol can do this good a job. Thanks for the life hack, sir! Filing this away for the future…….
