Choir practice was last night. We practiced a Thanksgiving song called Deo Gratias. When the director told us to take it out, he said: “Take out Deo.”
I couldn’t resist, and quietly sang “Day-O! Day… O!” to myself. The man sitting next to me sang quietly: “Daylight come and me wan’ go home”. Ha! We started laughing!
We decided the Banana Boat Song would be a good song for Thanksgiving church services because it’s about bananas and bananas are food.
HERE is the obligatory Beetlejuice movie clip.
We work all night and we drink up rum!
I’ve been listening to the Raffi version of this with my grandson. It always makes me smile!
Dang, I can’t believe that movie came out 26 years ago!
(Incidently, one time a coworker of mine was whistling the 1st stanza to Putting on the Ritz, and when the refrain part came, I blurted out that line…much too loudly, oops….like it is sung in this movie . People looked at me weird. I said, “What. You don’t know that movie?” I had to convince them by showing them a clip)

Haha! I forgot about that! I should watch that movie this coming week in honor of Halloween.
Did you gentlemen reflexively open the top buttons of your shirts as you sung? Harry would have…
…and of course, seeing the phrase “banana BOAT” made my mind go to “The Banana SONG” (we had just seen a “Top Ten Fictional Languages” clip in Language Mechanics that included it as well). So, for your listening pleasure (sorry if an ad precedes this…):
