Changing Colors

My aquarium continues to mature. I really enjoy watching the fish at feeding time. Last night I noticed something strange: my betta fish have changed color. They’re looking darker. I’ve been thinking about getting rid of them because they have sort of been boring me, but this color change is interesting. Are they getting ready to mate? I’ve only read a little bit about that process. Apparently, they are bubble nest makers. I’m not sure my aquarium is conducive to such activities. I think the water moves too much.

For now, I will keep watching. If they do decide to mate, I don’t think their babies have a very good chance of surviving in a community tank. Everyone will want to eat them.

Fish are hard to photograph.

I hope something exciting is happening with that beta. Years and years ago I had a beta in my classroom by a very cold door. It got very, very pale and then went to Beta Heaven. (I’m sure there’s a computer joke in there somewhere, but I can’t make it.)

I’ve been thinking about getting rid of them because they have sort of been boring me……Yea, it’s good that you’re not married.

(I’ve been reading how freezing them–your method I believe–is not really that humane. Oddly enough, bashing them with a stick–or in your case a shovel–seems to be popular because it’s quick. Dang, now I’m feeling all sad. Poor boring betta fish)
