Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Just for Today

Yesterday’s schedule at school was pretty crazy. At one point during the day, I found myself babysitting hotdogs as they cooked on the stove. While I was in the kitchen, I saw something that the NA group left behind:

They aren't quite in numerical order.

They aren’t quite in numerical order.

The different colors are for different amounts of time. The black one says “several years”. Here is the white one:
Just For Today

I have chronic bad habits, but can only imagine how hard it is to be addicted to drugs. I really admire the people who fight their way out of it. The words on the white keychain gave me a mix of heartache and pride. I said a prayer for addicts everywhere.

How dare you make me so verklempt this early in the day!

But seriously, folks…as a daughter of a woman with alcohol abuse issues and coming from a family where a cousin’s daughter is now fighting multiple physical consequences of long-term and heavy drinking, I truly appreciate your words and those prayers. My best friend of 35 years had over a dozen prescription medications on her nightstand and was, I am fairly sure, abusing OxyContin for years. So – convicted! “When was the last time you lifted a prayer for those trapped in an addictive situation, Carol, including misuse of social media [recent assembly at school and video in media class on this]? ”

    On my knees now…

Amen. I didn’t know what ‘NA’ stood for until the last paragraph. Thanks for the touching thoughts and reminder to pray. (Carol, praying for those in your life, too.)

In other matters, were the hotdogs ok?
