A Happy Ending

Yesterday I did the message at church. They asked that I also do a children’s message. The readings were about the end of the world and how bad things would be before the end.

I glued a new cover onto a big book I had. I had a kid read the title out loud.

A Story With A Happy Ending

A Story With A Happy Ending

Toward the back of the book, I had a page with a frowny face. I said if there was a picture like this in the story, you know something bad was happening. But look at the pages of the book and see how close we are to the end of the story. And what is this book called? “A Story with a Happy Ending”! So things must get better soon.

Pay no attention to those words. It's my old organ lesson book from college.

Then I turned to the end of the book, and look! It’s a smiley face. And look at the other picture. It’s a heart with a cross in it.

One of the little girls already knew where I was going with this, and loudly said: he's with Jesus!

Our life is like this book. We know that the story has a happy ending, so when bad things happen, we can always remember that being with Jesus makes us happy, and that someday we’ll be with Jesus and happy forever in heaven.

The regular message was right afterward. HERE it is.

Both of your messages were beautiful. Thank you for having a simple, concrete lesson for the little ones. Just perfect.

Those were also our readings yesterday, and at the congregational meeting our pastor said that he was glad for the cycle of readings, otherwise he would just pick his favorites. How appropriate to have this after the awful events of the weekend. Great message, Brad.

    BRAD,
I hope all your readers take the time to read your message. As well-grounded in faith as I feel myself to be, your sermons always are uplifting.
We are very proud of you and your ability, given by God, to do His ministry. You always hit the “nail on the head”, especially also the children’s messages.
Keep up His good work, dear son, BRAD. Mom and I are very proud of you!
Have an awesome new week in the Lord!
    DAD and MOM
