Decking Decision

I am replacing the decking on my front porch. Have I said that here at Bradaptation? I refinanced my mortgage, and took some extra money out to fix my back porch roof (which has already happened), and to re-deck my front porch (which hasn’t happened yet). As part of my construction costs, I’m flying my brother to Baltimore, and he’s going to help me. I”m so excited!

Yesterday I ordered the decking boards. I am going with PVC decking. It’s super-durable, and it looks really nice. The kind I ordered has multiple colors, so it looks more natural. This particular color is called “Black Walnut”. I think it looks really nice against the brick.

Samples were free. I looked at several brands and several colors.

It was a little scary ordering so much decking. It was a lot of money. I’m hoping I ordered enough and the right kinds of boards. Today is the last day of school, so I’ll have more energy and time to research and learn.

Wow! It looks so nice, especially compared to the old decking. You are going to LOVE it! (I also hope you find some weird stuff underneath the old deck. I’m going with lost treasure but I’d also take a mysterious object.)

    Question Time:
    When will Brent arrive?
How did the roof repair go? Did it take just a day or two?

Have a great last day of school!

      Brent arrives on the 15th.
The roof repair went really well. It took only one day. I should post about it.

There is some random stuff under the porch. I’m curious to see what it is. I think I want to rent a dumpster to put the old decking in. If I get a bigger one, I can put all that under-porch stuff in it too. My initial research tells me renting a dumpster is expensive. Ugh.

Great selection!! Your new porch is going to look FANTASTIC…..and be maintenance free!!!! Can’t wait to see pictures of the completed project.

Did you get the side railing stuff yet?
Will you use the same boards for the steps?

    • Brad

Today I went looking at columns. I think I’ll do the fiberglass/polymer ones. I haven’t shopped for railings much at all yet.

I do plan to use the same boards for the steps. My front steps are concrete, but the side steps are currently wood.

Bring your old decking and under the porch stuff with you to L&Ls. They only have one bench behind their house. It needs company.

Enjoy Your “BROTHER” Time!!!!! (Even If It Does Involve “Work”) I’m sure you’ll find a way to make it “FUN”!!!! <3 Aunt Bev 🙂

Nice color for your new porch. We replaced one of decks with something similar, maybe 2 years ago. It is more exposed to the elements than your porch will be, but it still looks new. Come see it if you can. Tom did it himself and may have a few pointers for you.

I would love to chat with him and to see your deck. I’ll text you.
