After sleeping in because of our late night, Brent and I started working on the porch floor. As we started clearing the bushes out of the way, my neighbor Karl came over. He had a TON of information about how we might proceed. We talked and planned for a while.
Before starting the work, we would need some materials. Before getting materials, we would need to eat lunch. First we went to Panera Bread. Mmmm… Then we went to Home Depot. Woo hoo! We got some twelve-foot boards. They would have hung out from the back way too far, so we put them over the cab.
We decided to start by replacing the columns. This will be Phase One. Phase Two will be to do some repairs to some of the piers under the columns. Phase Three will be working on the joists and support structure. Phase Four will be replacing the floor. We didn’t get very far yesterday, only getting one prop beam in next to one of the old pillars. Karl and his brother both helped. Awesome!
In spite of our slow progress, the sawhorse was really happy.
We worked until about 9:15pm. We were hungry, so we went out to eat. I had breakfast. Yum! When we came back home, a bullfrog was on the porch. I’ve never seen one climb all the way up there before, so I surprised to see it. Maybe it was inspecting our work.
Outstanding start, gentlemen! But watch for those late night bullfrog inspectors – I hear The City recently hired a bunch of ’em and they’re very picky…
Hooray for progress! It’s nice to see Brent guest-starring on Bradaptation, too. 🙂
I think you actually got a fair amount accomplished for the first day – especially considering your extremely long previous day. Go, Phase One! *ribbit*
Everything’s better with a smiling sawhorse.
Keep those update pictures coming.
I will really look forward to your PP’s (porch posts) 🙂
Thanks for Day One!
Love,
Dad
