Tailgater

I left early in the morning to go to church yesterday. I am leading a Bible class, and I needed to prepare the slide presentation for it.

On my way around the beltway, a semi-truck came up really close behind me. I had my cruise-control on, so I wasn’t speeding up and slowing down. He stayed right behind me. Since there were so few cars on the road, he had plenty of space to pass, but he didn’t. He followed me all the way to my exit. It was weird.

Then as I pulled into the parking lot of school, I noticed something else weird. My headlights were off. I had turned them off to replace the light bulbs in my tail lights, and I never turned them back on. I was driving completely dark all the way from home to church.

That truck driver wasn’t harassing me; he was protecting me. He was using his bright headlights to light up my truck so everyone else would see I was there.

Thank you, kind truck driver! I’m sorry I thought you were weird.

It's back on now.

It’s back on now.

Whew! I am so glad that he was looking out for you!

Ok, weird questions ahead. I turn my lights off each time I get out of the car (when I drive in the dark). Do you leave them on that dot or the ‘on’ setting all the time? What is that dot setting?

The dot setting is the parking lights.

I leave my headlights on all the time because my car turns them off when I turn off the car and open the door.

Now that’s a good samaritan. And I’m glad you were safe, driving in the semi-dark, thanks to the semi-driver.

That may have been one of those angels of whom you were unaware until the end of your journey (cite Hebrews). Good trucker! (I would have thought that was weird, too…)
