Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Off the Regular Route

On my way to school, I pass a road that I’ve always been curious about. If you turn left, you go to the humane society. If you turn right, there is a sign that says something about Maui cement. I finally turned left. It led to a dead end at the cement place.

I turned around and continued on my way. I was heading upcountry for a festival at a church. My route took me past the sugar refinery. Every time I pass the refinery, I see sign for the Maui Friends of the Library book shop. I’ve never turned down that road. Until yesterday.

It was a bit of a drive and a few turns, but the sights were fascinating. There was a whole group of buildings serving as a support system for the sugar workers. One of the buildings was a school. It was a beautiful old building. My internet research says it was built in 1922. I don’t think it’s being used as a school any more.

I really want to see the inside.
