I really don’t like doing laundry. It’s the easiest thing in the world at my apartment. The washer and dryer are so easily accessible. I even have an extra-tall bed to fold laundry on.
But it still is just a terrible chore for some reason.
The last couple of weeks I’ve had a kind of a pile up of laundry. I originally put it on my bedroom floor so I could sort it into different loads, but I never finished, and the pile of laundry was there permanently. Until now.
Yay! I did the last load and cleared the floor! It may not seem like a big deal, but I consider it a major accomplishment.
I find laundry frustrating because it is one of those jobs that is perpetual – once I think I’m done someone decides to change clothes and the basket is no longer empty. I usually just do frequent loads and accept that it’s a daily chore.
Kind of like grading. But with grading there is summer.
It is a big chore, and Gretchen’s right – it is so frustrating. You get the big accomplishment of it all being clean and then BAM. More laundry. I’m proud of you! In a perfect world my washer and dryer would be inside my closet. Problem solved.
I give the laundry analogy to practicum students: You will be saying theses words (all the ‘good manners’ words) to these children every day as long as you teach. It’s like laundry – it will never be ‘finished’.
