Fun in the City

Yesterday we woke up early because of jet lag. My phone is having trouble charging through the transformer, so I decided to try to stay off of it and I read instead.

Iday picked us up and took us to the second best lechon place in Cebu. The first best place didn’t have air conditioning, so she didn’t want to take me there.

It’s called Rico’s

Lechon is spit-roasted pork. It was delicious! The skin is particularly good. Salty and crunchy.

The calamari was good too.

And we had our first halo-halo there. It’s a mix of ice cream, fruit, coconut milk, and ice that is amazing!

You mix it up first, then eat it.

After lunch, Iday dripped us off that the mall. We were going to meet Denis’ cousin Charlie there later. It was packed. Charlie said that was because the mall has air conditioning. It is so hot and humid here!

It was big and fancy.

The mall was so fun. I got some books and some souvenirs. The people-watching was outstanding! So many people! It was a lot like a mall in the U.S., but the differences were fascinating. I was really surprised to see a Shakey’s pizza. I haven’t seen one of those since I was a kid!

We didn’t eat there. We had dim sum.

Last night we stayed in Iday’s guest house in Mandaue. It’s a small house attached to her house. It was interesting to stay in the city. Buildings were close to each other, but the inside of the place was really nice.

Iday likes wood carving, and has many pieces in her home. I didn’t get pictures of those, but I did get a picture of one in the guest house. They are all by the same artist, who has since died. They are beautiful!

Almost all the carvings are of the Holy Family.

The bathroom had the bucket-and-scoop style shower. I haven’t used one of these before, so it was fun and interesting. It sure rinses you a lot faster than a regular shower.

Everything in the bathroom gets wet when you shower.

Today we’re off to Bohol for some sight-seeing. It’s another island, so we’re taking a boat! Cool!

I am in love with that little house!! I can’t get over the idea of a little house attached to a big house, and I’m going to need to see a picture of that. The shower is so cool! I would imagine that it would use a lot less water than a regular shower, unless you had long hair that needed a lot of rinsing. No matter – I love it!!

I love the pictures, Brad! Thanks for not being too tired to post – it’s like we get to come along with you!

I didn’t take a picture of the outside of the house when we arrived. When we came back, it was too dark. I might be able to get a picture today, but you would be in bed by the time I would upload it. If I do get a pic, I’ll comment. Then you’ll see the notice in the sidebar.

I bet the people watching is spectacular! What a fancy mall! Such pretty food! Love the wood works!! I think i would have an issue with the whole bathroom getting wet tho? Hhmmm is there a lip at the door frame? Ha thank you for all the great pics! What a great adventure for you!

You step down to go into the bathroom. If it’s not sunken like that, then yes, there’s a lip. But I would think a clogged drain would be a bigger deal than if you’re in a bathtub.
