Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Scenes from School

Some pictures for the memory archive. First, a picture of the sunrise yesterday. It was cool.

Second, a picture of my desk at school. I think I’m getting things arranged in an optimal way for my new way of teaching. I’m still not used to sitting all day though. My back is killing me.

Yes! The physical discomfort is something unexpected. I have several different ‘workstations’ now – the floor, an actual table and the top of the art easel that I use as a sort of standing desk. I’m not face-to-face with the children, though (except for a couple of zoom meetings), so I can’t imagine the amount of sitting you are doing. You have a couple of days off, though, yes?

You’ll have to make yourself get up any time you can and take a lap around the school? I can’t be in one place for very long without setting up like glue either. Gotta keep moving! Do what you can to move around regular! Carry your laptop to somewhere different and work for a while? Sit on the floor for a while? Stand on your head? Oh, i’m getting carried away……

A colleague of mine complained about that very same problem early on – but she teaches F/T; I only have two classes and 4 Zoom sessions each week, so there is still more chance for movement on my end of cyberspace. Could you raise your laptop to do any of your stuff while standing, I wonder, or would that be more of a hassle to lower and raise over time. Hmmm…try to hang in there. The school year will be over for us in MD in about 5 more weeks; how about at Emmanuel?

P.S. Time to get a new “teacher chair”? It looks like it’s been through the big wars…
