Growing Garden

We were off of school for Easter Monday yesterday. I did very little. It was nice to relax, but I over-did it a little, so I’m glad to be getting back to work.

One of the things that got me off the couch was to go onto the lanai and spend time out in my garden. The vegetables are growing fast. They are definitely not seedlings anymore.

The cucumber plants already have flower buds! Woo hoo! I might get some cucumbers! My problem in the past was powdery mildew, but those plants weren’t in full sun. Hopefully the full sun and fresh breeze will keep these healthy.

My hibiscus was blooming yesterday. The catalog said these flowers can get to be eleven inches across, but that happens on plants as they get older. The flowers are definitely bigger now than when I first got the plant, but they aren’t eleven inches yet. They are eight, though. I got a piece of printer paper for scale:

Wow! It’s like your own personal jungle out there! So lush and beautiful!

I was a wreck yesterday. Productive until about 10:30, then a blob. It is a good thing today is a work day. What’s the meme going around about, “It turns out that being too busy is not the reason stuff doesn’t get done around my house”? – something like that……

Wow at your successful privacy plants! You’ll have to check everything from your kitchen with binoculars before long? And another wow at your hibiscus! Just amazing! Glad you had a day off!

Since I have only tried “cukes” in mounds planted on the ground, I am trying to imagine how yours will work as they grow from those pots. If their leaf size (and that amazing hibiscus!) are any indication, your lanai will soon be a jungle indeed. I can hear the tropical birds already…
