I don’t teach art at this current school, but I do teach math. I talked a little about fractals, a little about Sierpinski triangles, and then got my current 8th graders going on making this year’s Christmas tree.
It started a little slowly, but now there are enough kids invested in it to sustain the effort. I keep printing papers to make the triangles. The construction process tends to become a specialized assembly line type of thing. Some cut the papers, some fold, some tape the individual tetrahedrons, and some assemble things into the Sierpinski pattern. Each year, I find out what is needed and take on that role. This year, I am a Folder.
Yay! It’s Christmas! That is so awesome – I am sure that the more that is made, the more they want to do. 😀
I’m reminded of something Melody often did with her math students this month…I believe it had to do with sewing through cardboard to make a particular holiday pattern. Math is so versatile, isn’t it? And they say “I never use…” – ha!
