DC Trip, Day 4

Yesterday we started the day at Mount Vernon – George Washington’s house. The sky was so dramatic in the morning!

It’s a really interesting place to visit. It’s on the shores of the Potomac River. It was an opportunity for another picture of the dramatic sky:

The house itself is cool. Lots of original stuff still there. Look – I’m putting my hand on the same railing George Washington put his hand on!

Here’s an original piece of furniture from his time there:

The grounds are beautiful. We walked all around them.

It did have a weird sign by the entrance though. I’m trying to imagine the story behind this:

Next, we went to Gettysburg. The visitor center is new-ish. I had never been in there. It’s cool. There’s a movie you watch, then you see this giant painting in a circular room. It’s called the cylclorama. Someone took a picture of me as I contemplated the painting.

After the visitor center, we drove around the battle field while a hop-on tour guide travelled with us. There were many picture opportunities.

We stayed at a hotel in Gettysburg last night. Today we head to New York!

I agree – that sign is…weird. So you may bring knives if they fold up and the blade is no longer than 3.5″…but please don’t ditch them outdoors?! So many questions…

That cyclorama is something, isn’t it? I’ve not been to Gettysburg for eons but do recall that room – striking imagery.

Hope the weather is good again today for you – predicted low 70’s and sunny again today. Happy trails!

Somebody brought a machete and was denied entrance, so they ditched it in the bushes – that’s my theory.

Another amazing day that could have been a week! I think your photos of the sky are great – like, ‘on a calendar’ great. Well done with the composition.
