Divide And Conquer

Yesterday we tried a new thing at school: Instead of having the regular before-school meeting, we had a “campus work day”. We located things around school that needed fixing, cleaning, organizing, painting, etc… then we broke into groups and did them. It was pretty cool.

As I said earlier, I decided to work on restoring the “privacy screens” between the urinals in the boys bathrooms. I had one divider to hang in the Middle School, and three dividers to hang in the High School.

The Middle School bathroom was kind of fun. It was morning, I was playing an old mixed tape I made for Beth when I was in college, and there were people in the hallway laughing and having fun. After lunch, I hung the three dividers in the High School. That wasn’t as fun. There was no music, no people, and the walls I was drilling into were wearing out masonry bits faster than I could replace them. I persevered, though. Behold, the magnificent result!

BEFORE:
What were they thinking when they installed these urinals? In order to use them, people would be have to be pressed shoulder-to-shoulder. Ack!

AFTER:
I really messed up on one of them, but I dont think anyone will notice.

In the Middle School, several people worked on the copy room. It was a disaster, but now it’s OCD-riffic!

BEFORE:
It's just a little messy.

AFTER:
The sticky-notes are even color coded!

Wowzers! You guys are like the Extreme Makeover School Edition! One day and you tear through the place making it awesome. (I guess that makes you Ty Pennington.)

  2. Michele

I can’t believe you messed up that one urinal wall. It’s SOOOOO obvious – geeesh!

What the …? Where’s my picture?

      • Michele

Ohhhh – I think I understand – I’m not using the same email address. I can’t remember how you get the picture thingy – someone remind me!

Um…I was in the High School & I’m a people thank you very much! A people who lent you my most prized possesion! And I would have been only too happy to sing your favorite songs if I only knew.

    Great job everyone!!!!

I really should give credit where credit is due. Peggy assisted me greatly by taping the L-brackets on the dividers while I held them up. She also lent me her fan, which, if you know Peggy, is a great sacrifice.

But can you sing great hits from the early nineties?

    OCD-irific…hmmm…means Michele was involved, eh?

    • Kim

      Bingo!

If you look at the post-it notes on the brown boxes on the middle shelves, they are crooked!! Arggggh!!! What faulty OCD!

      Relax everyone…I have fixed them.

      • Lauren

I thought they were just put up in a jaunty fashion.

        • Michele

OK – let me clarify. The crooked post-its were simply thrown on to identify empty boxes for future use. I would love to take credit for “jaunty fashion” sense, but I’m no Brad! The color-coded and labeled post-its were carefully placed by myself and my new OCD math partner Angie. Then they were taped into place with one of my favorite things … packing tape. I love that stuff!

    Very nice results! Quite impressive…

The before and after pictures are very satisfying. And they could serve to help us keep the work room nice and neat.

And a thank you from my son, Patrick, who was excited when I told him about your project. Nobody likes to do their business out in the open.

Our next in-service day is slated for October 17th, a Friday, I believe. I’ll be forwarding my own personal list of things around the house that still need fixing or replacing that the Freys didn’t even get to this summer (slothful slackers that we are). I think a 9am-3pm slot should about cover it all based on what I see above. I’ll even treat for pizza. (“My, what a creative idea!”)

But seriously, this team did an amazing job yesterday – the hottest most humid day of the entire summer here, too. Everyone else in Bradaptationland would have been proud of them. Seward – when do you want to fly them all out to work on your “stuff”? I hear they could be free from, say, August 25th until about early June. Make an offer!

[…and when can I expect a posting of my lovely repainted “bird houses”???]
