Affirmation

Due to a strange convergence of events, the eighth graders are now done with school. The sixth and seventh graders have four more days. As do their teachers. It’s a little bizarre, but it’s a long story.

So anyway, last night was eighth grade “Affirmation”. I think we don’t call it graduation because we want them to come to our ninth grade as well. We do call it graduation when they’re done with twelfth grade. Our Affirmation service happens in a church. It’s a worship service/ award ceremony. Last night’s service went pretty well. We were done with everything in an hour and twenty minutes or so. Not bad. The evening ends with people packed into the fellowship hall eating cake and drinking punch and having awkward conversation.

This event is one of the signs of the end of the school year. But it doesn’t seem like the end because today I’m still teaching lessons. Except half my kids are not there anymore. Good-bye, eighth graders.

(Bump) Excuse me. (Bump) Excuse me.

Wasn’t there an affirmation kit on Saturday Night Live? Stuart Smally – “I’m smart enough, I’m good enough, and doggone – people like me.” Did your eighth graders say that?

You should have brought your shovel for crowd population control. I mean really, why stop with rabbits?

Watch your back, Peggy. Maybe Brad is also on a rampage for school secretaries.

“Good-bye, eighth graders”?!? Don’t tell me you went after them with your shovel too!

You’ve been outted, sir! No more tall tales about how the administration added make-up-snow days after scheduled end of classes but couldn’t move the date of Affirmation because of other events already scheduled. You really DID wipe 55 young adolescents off the planet, didn’t you? Quick, everyone – to Brad’s back yard, loking for any HUMAN remains in the garden! (You know those children who torture animals often grow up to…..ooooo, this is creeping me out now!!)
