Dirty Desks

At the beginning of the year, I was pretty faithful about wiping the desks off in my room every day. I got some cleaning wipes and would use one per row. I worked through a whole jumbo-sized container of wipes that way. My goal was to keep the desks clean. The kids doodle on them or write messages, and they slowly get dirtier looking. I thought that if I kept up with it, they’d stay relatively clean.

Lately, I haven’t been so faithful about cleaning the desks. Things seemed to get really busy, so any time I had at school was spent shuffling papers. Not to mention my tendency to fall asleep when I’m feeling stressed. Anyway, the desks are pretty bad. I’m going in to school this morning before church choir practice because I want to get my desk organized. It’s horribly messy. While I’m there, I plan to clean the student desks, too. I imagine it will take more than one cleaning wipe per row, because of this picture I took a while ago. It’s what a wipe looks like after one desk when they look clean:

Where does it all come from? Are Middle Schooler hands responsible? Are they really THAT dirty?

Holy smokes! Are they burning sacrifices on their desks or something? Who knew that big kids could be so messy? I scrub my tables with Comet occasionally, but little guys are expected to miss the paper when they ‘write’.

In 1st grade, we would clean our desks every Friday with shaving cream. The kids loved it. Then we’d go outside for recess; and upon our return, the room would smell so clean!

I did the shaving cream thing last year. First they did math facts in the shaving cream before we wiped the desks clean. There’s nothing like the sweet smell of a freshly shaven man in the room!

Please go to J5 when you are finished. I know mine need the same treatment. Thanks so much!

Before we let middle school students have shaving cream, we would need to have saftey glasses and a nurse handy.

    those filthy middle schoolers.
