A Trip to the Motorcycle Shop

In handbell practice last night we didn’t play the bells. The church was set up for the school Christmas program, so there were risers where we usually set up the bell tables. Instead of playing, we polished the bells. They were looking pretty dirty.

All the bell catalogs sell a product called Simichrome Polish to clean handbells. It’s pretty amazing. But I don’t order it from the handbell catalogs. That would take foresight and planning. Instead of planning ahead, I always wait until the day we need the stuff, then get it. I have found that hardware and houseware stores don’t sell Simichrome Polish. But a few years ago (and I don’t know how I discovered this), I found out that a motorcycle shop near my house sells the polish. They say it’s good for polishing the chrome on your motorcycle. 🙂

So last night I went to Pete’s Cycle Co. to get some handbell polish. It’s fun to go in there, because it’s not a place I would normally go. They have an amazing array of motorized vehicles. They even had a tiny-sized four-wheeler that you could get for a boy for Christmas. It was heartwarming. I marched confidently to the back where they keep the Simichrome, and asked for two tubes.

I would have taken a picture of the inside of the store, but I was afraid to. T.J. Maxx is one thing, but Pete’s? I don’t think so. Instead, here’s a picture of the Simichrome Polish.

Best metal polish ever.

Those German people and their metal polishes. Those Polish people and their metal germanes. Ha! That worked both ways! Phonetically, at least. I think.

    It’s from Iowa!!

Could you move that tube of polish over a bit so I can copy down your credit card #?

Next time you have to go to the motorcycle store, wear all leather & chains (it’d be a great picture you have to admit) … walk up to a bike & say to one of the workers, “Wattleshedo?”

BTW: I bought a helmet at Pete’s in the spring & it makes me look just like Gazoo. No kidding. It’s hilarious. I don’t know why it’s so extra round. I guess that’s why it was on sale. They must be discontinuing the Flinstone Line.

Whew! For a minute there I thought Toms of Maine had been supplanted by another hard-to-find unusual dentifrice.
