Behold the Power of Flax

More than a year ago, I had a routine blood test that told me my cholesterol was 218. The doctor threatened me with medicine, so I jogged a little and started eating ground flax seed. Four months after that, I had some blood tests as a result of my participation in a medical study. My cholesterol number was down to 212. Good for me!

I just got the results from my most recent blood test. Cholesterol number = 213. I consider that pretty good. If I can keep it to a one point increase per year, I’ll be in my fifties before I start taking the medicine. By then, my memory will be so bad, no one will notice the drugs’ side effect of memory loss.

Until then, I’ll just keep eating my flax. And jogging for a week, then taking five months off. It seems to be working pretty well.

Is 'ideally' too high better or worse than 'literally' too high?

Hooray for flax! Keep eating that disgusting magic powder, because that article scared the willies out of me. I had to stop reading it because it was so longscary.

    Yee hah!

Funny. Three years ago I had my cholesterol checked. Mine was also 218.

Must be genetics. (Actually I’m quite certain it’s genetics. Both our grandmas had high cholesterol, and Grandma H. had terribly high blood pressure, too. See what we’re in store for? 😀 )

      Strap on the pedometer! 🙂

Three years ago mine was 260. My doc said there’s nothing you can do to change your genes so don’t sweat it.

I’m taking another test on October 8, I’ll let you know how it goes.

You guys should go to my doctor. He always bugs me to drink more alcohol too…

Note to self: Don’t miss Council meeting when it’s Brent’s turn to bring “treats.”

C’mon Brad….give some attention to your Liver, Thyroid and Kidney levels….they’re doing just fine! And, in the comment section, does that say, “Wine = okay” ?? How do you get a doctor to write that?

    • Brad

Haha! It says “urine = okay”. Aren’t you glad to know my urine is okay? I left it in the picture on purpose. 🙂

      • Annette

Let me think….(thinking sounds)…Nope! Nothing brings me greater gladness. But, can one go from okay urine to great urine?

Yikes!! I take Lipitor!! I guess that explains the scrambled egg brain…and I thought it was age! Now what? Scrambled egg brain? Higher cholesteral? Eeny, meanie, miny, moe….

Note to Beth: Once upon a time I had a memory like you…then I took Lipitor…now I barely know my name.

PS—My good chol. was 45 and I got in trouble with that number…What’s up with that? “not high enough” the doctor said…maybe I should go to your doctor…oh, wait

*sigh My last round of bloodwork was for crazy things like Beta-2 Glycoprotein IGA and Russell Viper Vemon Time. The results are just as confusing as the test names – but with even bigger words.

Your low triglycerides got my attention. Congrats there too, youngster!

[Even with Lipitor and good HDL up/bad LDL down, I can’t wrangle those blasted triglycerides into shape. Doctor mumbled something about breads and starches, but I think I was finishing my morning bagel and a Michael Phelps-sized bowl of pasta while he was talking so I can’t be sure…]

Let’s hope they don’t find something wrong that would cause this to be done to you… http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26855727
