Mouth Trouble

A couple of days ago, Max spent most of an evening sticking his tongue out and licking his lips. I thought he had burned his tongue or nose on the heater I keep over his cat bed. Then he started having really bad breath. It was carrion-like. I wondered if the two were related.

Yesterday I called the vet to ask if it was something I should be worried about. The girl said she couldn't advise me on the phone, but there was an opening in twenty minutes if I wanted to bring him. This new vet doesn't charge $60 per visit like my old one, so I jumped in the car and took him in.

I once again have to say I love Northwind Animal Hospital. They fawned over Max and made me feel like I had the best pet in the world.

When the vet opened his mouth, she discovered the source of the mouth discomfort and of the carrion breath: Max is losing his baby teeth. In fact, she was able to pull one out right then and there. She asked me if I wanted to keep it. Of course I said yes.

Baby tooth molar and super-cool vial they put it in.

Congratulations, Max! Next you’ll start catching yummy mice for Brad!

That is crazy!! I never thought about cats having baby teeth. Did that quarter come from the Cat Tooth Fairy? (‘Cause if it did, she’s really cheap.)

Carrion breath? That simply disgusts me.

I thought the same thing…carrion breath? Because teeth are falling out??? Are you sure he doesn’t have a chunk of your big toe lodged in his teeth somewhere?

        hehe

I only know the phrase ‘carrion breath’ from Brad. He used to say it in college all the time. I think he was trying to tell me something…

I thought your next mystery was to find out about JFK or JR…not what was making Max smell like he was eating carrion.

I look forward to your answer tomorrow.

Awww! There’s not much cuter than a teething kitty, is there?

So, do you give him frozen teething rings like puppies get to gnaw on? Or perhaps a finger dipped in a strong “spirit” and rubbed on the gums to numb things (and/or make for one happy Max)? And since when is there a Cat Tooth Fairy [unless it leaves a can of sardines or nice fresh raw meat for the youngster]??

“Hang on, Max – this too shall pass!” Meanwhile, please pass the Dentyne….
