Playing With Food

I got more beef chunks for Max the other day. I give him one chunk per day. I like that chewing on them cleans his teeth, plus they keep him having a taste for raw flesh.

The only problem is that he doesn’t eat the meat right away. Instead he tosses it around. He’ll throw it into the air with his mouth, then bat at it with his paws while it’s flying. I don’t know if it’s a way for him to feel like it’s still living, or if he’s just really happy to get some raw meat, or if he’s just messing with me. If I’m in the kitchen while he plays, he’ll often throw the meat against my legs. I’m going to have to get some blood remover for my pants.

Last night, a random throw ended with a piece of meat stuck to the edge of the kitchen counter.

I iz too short.

    That is HYSTERICAL!!!!

Does Max have a little Smeagol/Gollum thing going on:

    “Under the rug my precious.”

    “No, we eats you now.”

    “But Master watches us.”

    “Yes.” “No.” “Yes.” “No.”

(the slash is for you Kim)

What if you strapped a piece of meat to a tiny remote-controlled car? That’d really get him revved up. Get it? “Revved?” Like a car engine? Get it? no? never mind…

I LOVE Lauren’s idea. You must implement that sometime. I think Max would love it.

On the psychology, I think Max is still just a little guy, so he loves to play. Even better that you (his number 1) are an audience.

Play, play, play… and then he can start hunting!

Why not just give him a live mouse? Then the meat would have a fighting chance and Max would have more of a challenge… Then again, if he’s like our cat Ollie, he might realize that if he plays too much, the mouse goes away, so he’ll let him go after a while.

“No officer, as you can see from my website post from exactly three weeks ago, I have a perfectly legitimate reason for having this package of blood remover. It’s a real shame about my neighbor though. A real shame” –Future Brad
