Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Nothing

I’m still getting used to my new schedule that includes wrestling practice. It’s a hard transition for me. The first week was a baptism by fire. Tuesday after wrestling practice I went directly to handbell practice, which wasn’t too bad because I was done by 7:45pm. Wednesday was a church council meeting. I wasn’t done until 9:30pm. Thursday was Bible study. 9:15pm. I was getting home, making sure my recorded TV shows were there, then going to bed. I didn’t even read before going to sleep.

Last night, I had no commitments. Absolutely nothing. I got home at 5:15pm, made a grilled cheese sandwich, and watched TV. At 7:30pm I almost went to bed because I was so sleepy. Thinking that probably wasn’t a good idea, I played Peggle and surfed the internet for a while, but I was still in bed early. It was glorious.

I watched Dr. Who and Bones.

Ha! Now you know how I feel. The other day, I realized that I got up, made breakfast, got the kids out the door, got myself out the door, worked all day, came home, made dinner, cleaned the kitchen, took the kids to whatever, and finally got into bed at 10. And I realized why I was feeling tired.

But this morning…? I am sitting on my backside, sipping coffee. The kids are elsewhere, and my first “appointment” is about 10:00 to pick up Daniel and have a long chat with my friend. Ahhhhhh.

Doctor Who!!!! I love you!!!! He’s so awesome. I bonded with one of my kid’s dads at parent-teacher conferences over sci-fi television. We disagreed about the current Doctor, though. He thinks he’s not as good, I think he’s super-cute.

Boy, your long days make my long days look pathetic.

We were on similar schedules beginning of this week, Brad. I was doing the 12 hours (including travel, of course) of school, crawling home to humble repast (actually had tomato soup and grilled cheese myself Friday night!) then falling into bed to try to get enough energy to get up and face the next day. Then came better living through chemistry, and three drugs later…

Back when Tom Baker was The Doctor, ah – those were the good Dr. Who days, eh? Since then, Heroes has sort of filled that void. Like the old days with the Doctor, I can sit and watch an entire episode of Heroes now and come away wondering what just happened there…but yearning for the next episode nonetheless. Strange addictions, these sci-fi shows.

Tom Baker was the best, of course, but I had a serious crush on Peter Davison. *sigh*
