Art for Max

Happy Birthday, Peggy! Yay!

An envelope arrived in the mail yesterday. It was from Tara to Uncle Brad. I don’t think the art inside was for me though.

At Christmas time, I watched Tara paint and draw pictures several times. When she wanted to draw a picture for Max, I suggested she use sparkle paint because Max likes sparkles. She would gleefully squeeze as much paint out of the tubes as possible and pile it up in one big heap on the paper. Then she would fold the paper into a soggy mess and announce that I should give it to Max. I brought several of them home, but didn’t really show them to Max. This time was different.

Upon opening the envelope, I laid the papers on the floor and brought Max over.

The one that says 'Tara Tim' on it has someone else's name and a grade on the back. I think it's someone's homework.

Instead of gazing at the sparkly creation, Max preferred to smell it.

Mmm... sparkly...

Thank you, Tara! Max loves the smell of your painting!

I can see that Max truly appreciates the fine things in life – look how he closes his eyes as he smells it, shutting out all visual input so he can focus on the smell of the paint better!

And Happy Birthday to Peggy!!!!!!!!!! Woo-hoo!!!

  3. Deanne

    🙂
He’s getting big, isn’t he. Can you show a quarter for size?

    • Brad

Actually, he’s kind of fat right now. I’m a little embarrassed. I’ve stopped giving him treats of any kind. It’s just regular food now. I hope he slims down. I don’t want to ration food… that’ll just make him pester me all the time.

      • Deanne

don’t they have diet food, too? Are you still giving him chunks of meat?

        • Karla

Iams makes diet – we used to do a mixture for our cats because one was fat and one wasn’t… I don’t know if the fat one lost any weight.

Cats all plump up in the winter…even if they are indoor cats. He’ll slim down. He’s just packing it on so he can stay warm for the winter.

        • Peggy

That’s what I thought too. I mean, don’t we all pack it on in the winter…to keep ourselves warm.

      • Carol

I wonder if Beth and Harold ever have problems with their children pestering them all the time, regardless how well-fed or hungry they are…..

        (I’m sorry…nobody else went there; I couldn’t resist…my bad!)

Heh. That’s awesome. I had no idea what was in that envelope. Tara never wants me to look at what she puts in before it’s sealed. Heh.

The Tara/Tim art was done with our babysitter Melisa. Is it her paper?
And for reference (for the rest of bradland) the glitter paint is made by Elmer’s and smells just like white glue. Max must be about the equivalent of a 7th grade boy right now, huh?

      so funny and so true

    And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PEGGY!!!

  6. Beth

I just showed Tara. She giggled a lot. Then she said.

“Why is he smelling my painting?”

    “Hey! Max has people feet!”

“And, he kind looks like a dolphin, because dolphins are that color.”

    All without taking a breath.

    Heh.

        Happy, Happy, Happy, Birthday!

Peggy opened her birthday basket during lunch today and out popped a SHAM-WOW! Can’t wait to hear about the best use for your SHAM-WOW!

And you got a Max post for your birthday…lucky!

Hi Max-my aren’t you looking svelte today?

  8. Peggy

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!

Max, I totally “get” smelling something visual – it reminds me of certain pieces of classical music. I look at the sheet music – it is SOOOOO busy there! – and I think “How can anybody interpret all those dots and lines and play it to sounds the same as the last time somebody played it?” So I appreciate sheet music visually – you appreciate visual art olefactorially (I made that word up, I think)…we’re just integrated senses kinda folk, I guess. Just don’t eat the painting or anything please. Tara would be sad and you’d have even more to work off on a tiny kitty treadmill later.
