Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Is it Me?

I had just emptied my current gallon of milk, so I went to open a new one. I had two gallons waiting for me because of a recent visit to the grocery store. The expiration dates were good: April 5 and April 7. I decided to open the April 5 one first, even though I would probably have both of them finished by then.

It was sour. Good grief! I went to the April 7 gallon. Also sour. Geez! What’s with all the sour milk?

I kept both gallons just so I could make sure it wasn’t some sort of tongue hallucination. I got a new gallon for comparison. The new gallon was sweet and refreshing. Both of the old gallons were sour and revolting. This is the brand that has always been good for me. I was avoiding Lucerne and getting Lehigh. My refrigerator is plenty cool, so I know that’s not the problem. I’m beginning to wonder if maybe the “Indian burial ground” idea might have some merit.

Now what? Maybe I should convert permanently to dry milk. It worked for me this summer.

It seems like I should be able to do something useful with two gallons of spoiled milk.

it’s so wrong. (but some part of me thinks that powdered milk is wrong, too…)

      hi Deanne!

Wow – what’s it like to have a super power? It’s like a really bad Midas touch. Try to use your powers for good, ok? Maybe you could work in a sour cream factory.

Good one, Lauren! Once again, you crack me up.

    Contact the store!!

    • Brad

I don’t have my receipt any more.

      • Lauren

        Contact the cow!!

      • Peggy

You don’t need the receipt. The store will recognize it’s product…I’ve taken back milk & meat w/o a receipt. They will be very apologetic too.

SO TAKE IT BACK…unless you’ve already started making cheese out of it.

        • Brad

D’oh! I poured it down the drain already. It’s making cheese in the sewer now.

        • Carol

You’ll have some very happy rats in your neighborhood if indeed your sour milk is already making cheese. How thoughtful of you!

I don’t think it matters if you have a receipt any more. You need to tell the store. What if their distributer had a bad batch or there is a problem with the milk?

Don’t switch to powder. Whatever you do. Don’t switch to powder.

    That’s just wrong.

    • Lloyd

Have you tried granulated milk? It captures more of the actual crystalline structure of real milk, so it tastes more like real milk.

      • Peggy

Did you call for the free sample?

      • Rose

illll…… what’s granulated milk for normal person anyway?

        hi Lloyd!

If you Google “milk expiration dates”, after you wade through all the “expiration dates” are really “sell by dates” (clearly your experiences, Brad, contradict THAT, eh?), and how seeing an expiration date allegedly plays tricks with your mind so you smell sourness when it’s really not spoiled yet (…yea…right…), you’ll read a Business Week article about how milk can spoil quite fast if it isn’t refrigerated quickly enough after purchase from the store. That may be the issue – do you go to the grocery first, then make a run to the dump, then go put the milk away? A-HA! Problem solved!!

    hi Brad,
I hope other Saints that remember me and Tony are reading this too.
I’m glad to find you and some other Saints on FB and here. I’ll definitely be doing some exploring here. Time flies and it’s >20 years since we saw each other. I just remember that Tony & I sort of just disappeared. But I still remember you and the rest of the gang.

BTW, I don’t really have any milk problem in HK as I rarely drink any. I became lactose intolerant and it’s difficult to find lactose-free milk here.

Keep in touch via email: rosey@vtc.edu.hk (I can’t stay on a website for too long, you know why!)

take care & stay away from sour milk, Brad.
