I Can’t Wait!

I ordered four apple trees a while back. They’re specially bred trees that won’t grow any branches. They grow small spurs off the trunk and the apples just hang there. I was very excited to try them.

They came late in March. I didn’t know where I would plant them, so I waited. And waited. It was Spring Break by the time I got them in the ground. Two of the trees had already broken bud and started growing leaves. Two of the trees still looked like sticks. It’s been alternately sunny and rainy since I planted them, and the two that sprouted are doing well. The two that haven’t sprouted still look like sticks.

I’ve been having trouble deciding if I should order replacements for the two stick-like trees. Are they dead, or are they just slow? I don’t want to order replacements and find out a couple days later everything is fine. But I don’t want to wait, find out they’re dead, then have to wait a whole year to replace them.

Two days ago, a mailer came from Miller Nurseries – the apple trees were on sale. How could I NOT get them? I ordered new trees yesterday.

Save $11.15 on two?!? It's like they're PAYING me to get these trees!

We need an apple tree like that! Is it too late for me to order one? Where should it be planted in the yard? Do I have to water it?

Did you get a gallon of Worm-Ade, too? That’s probably the ‘tea’ from worm recycling – I’ll fix you right up.

You have to plant both of the different varieties or you won’t get any fruit. They cross-pollinate each other. They need full sun, so you’d plant them on the east or north south side of your house. Water would be important for the first summer, but after that, they’re almost care free.

I did not get Worm-Ade. I wasn’t sure how I would get the worms to drink it.

I’m sure not clicking on that. It sounds noisy!

Oh go ahead Deanne – it’s a song by Hootie and the Blowfish. Brad teaches his daughter!! It’s safe – promise. Peggy and I met “Hootie” when he came to pick her up the other day for her birthday.
