Good News, Bad News, Good News

Max survived my absence. A friend of Denis babysat. I was a little worried because I didn’t know if he would pet Max enough. But there doesn’t seem to be any psychological damage, so I think he must’ve done a good job.

I left a clean litter box so Denis’ friend wouldn’t have to deal with that. It was super-gross when I came back. I decided to just throw the entire contents out and start with new litter. I haven’t been able to find my favorite brand for a while. It’s Scoop Away Unscented. I can find other formulations of Scoop Away, but not the unscented kind. Today I asked. The pet store girl said they stopped making it. Dang. I’m trying Scoop Away With Crystals to see how it works out for me. It doesn’t reek of perfume as much as the Multi-Cat formulation, so I like it better already.

Be very glad I didn't take a 'before' picture.

I’ve had Max on lower-calorie food for a couple of months now. He’s been slimming down, but it was hard to notice when it was day-to-day. After being away for five days, I’ve really noticed a change in his size.

Still a belly, but a smaller belly.

Awwwww – Hi, Max! Hi, Max’s little belly!

Boy, I hope the guy who cat-sits our cats doesn’t let it get so yucky. 😀 (I have many bribes planned.)

More importantly, how does Maxlike the new litter? We once changed to Fresh Step because we thought it would improve the aromatic quality of the bathroom in which the litter box was kept. Big mistake! One of the two kitties we had at the time was allergic to a chemical or two in that brand, her eyes swelled shut, etc. It was traumatic, as one might imagine. Nothing worse than being unable to fnd your litter box because you are temporarily blinded by its contents!

Meanwhile, the Freys are now up one feline – a 3-4 week old bundle of furry tuxedoed cuteness walked right up to us at brother-in-law’s house yesterday as we were on our way out to lunch and basically claimed us for her own. (Well, I’m saying “her” because there is not yet any visible “plumbing” to contradict the claim…) We had to store her in the bathroom while we were out – she’s apparently an ace at unrolling toilet paper already! Thurman still has her up there with him and Danny today while I kitten-proof the house (i.e., close all open doors to places where a small furry body could get into trouble). I’ve had The Talk with the almost-11-year-old mutt about how we’re about to share our home again, he should be nice and not eat the cat, etc. We’re hoping for the best in that area, of course.

Congratulations, Max, on your weight-loss program! Will we be seeing you on an infomercial soon? [“But wait – there’s more!”] Way to go – you are a role model for all of us!

      But what’s her name??

After the cat in “Bolt”, we’re leaning toward “Mittens” – she does have the commensurate white paws. In fact, in the hind quarters, her white portion almost looks like a youth from the ‘hood wearing trousers too low below the belt.

Congratulations Carol! A new pet member of the family is always so much fun!

    Max really has trimmed down.
Good boy Max. It will prevent the daily treadmilling.

Way to go Max!! You’re looking maaavelous!

So Brad, did Max go crazy when you got home? Were there any messes or things he got into in protest to your absence?

We have two litter boxes now that are scooped twice daily. Lauren must really like these cats.
