Improvising

My bedroom door latch wasn’t catching anymore. It was bad because I always keep the door closed to trap the air-conditioned air inside. It also keeps the vampires out. Since the latch wasn’t catching, the cold air was getting out and I was in constant danger of vampire attack. The doorknob had been getting progressively looser and was ready to fall off, so I bought a new one. After I installed it, the latch caught and I had no more issues. Yay!

Since I was already fixing doors, I looked at Denis’ bedroom door too. It had also stopped latching. He was using a wad of tissue to jam the door shut. Since getting a new doorknob fixed my door, I figured it would work for his too. After I got back from the doorknob store, I did a closer inspection and saw that there wasn’t a problem with the doorknob. The problem was that the latch was completely missing the latch plate in the door frame. So I would either have to make the latch longer, or the door frame smaller. I decided on the latter. Having a pizza box on hand, I removed the latch plate and put several layers of cardboard behind it and screwed it back into the door frame. Perfect! And as Lauren always says: “It’s good enough for who it’s for.”

I fixed the door with a pizza box and a razor blade. Top that McGuyver!

…and again we raise our hands in the air and whine, “Is there nothing you can’t fix?!” Way to go, Brad!

(Was your bedroom door the one with the knob that fell off recently, or is this yet another place in your home with knob issues? Has that also been appropriately dealt with…or do the ‘pires still have an entryway somewhere into your humble abode? Isn’t Max trained to intercept them?!)

“I’ve never had someone quote me back to me before.”
    (Name that movie.)

Silly Brad, vampires can’t come in unless you invite them. It’s werewolves and zombie you need to keep out.

That’s why I ALWAYS tell people when they come to the door (of anything), “Come in, unless you’re a vampire.”

You should see the looks on the vampires faces. First unrestrained glee, then that sort of pouty look they get.

So. Denis isn’t worth a new door fixture?
