Songs of the Season

I haven’t been much of a Christmas music listener in my adult life. In my young years, my mom would play stacks of Christmas records every morning and all weekend. I liked it well enough. But as an adult, Christmas music became part of my job of choir directing. I would start working with Christmas songs at the beginning of November… sometimes earlier. By the time December came along I’d be tired of it.

This year, I’ve had little musical involvement with Christmas, so I’ve actually been wanting to hear Christmas music. There’s a radio station in Baltimore that plays “lite rock” or some other such embarrassing designation. I have it in my radio presets because it plays songs from the 80’s and 90’s, so I recognize them. After Thanksgiving, they switch over to all Christmas music all the time. So now, when I’m not listening to my talk radio station, I’m listening to Christmas music. Hooray Christmas!

It's always dark when I'm driving now.

    Merry Fmiichioig to you, too!

The weather here just turned freezing yesterday, so it now seems like the time to listen to some Christmas music. We need some tunes to warm our hearts.

I was having trouble finding a station that didn’t consider “Grandma got Run Over by a Reindeer” a classic.

So… did you have any success? I have two Christian stations I can listen to where I’ve never heard the Grandma song. Although I get a little tired sometimes of remakes of hymns, which it sometimes feels like it is.

It just doesn’t seem like Christmas time to me. My internal calendar says it’s September. Maybe breaking out my Jim Nabors CD will do the trick. It better…I need to get shopping.

Try Pandora.com, Peggy, and plug in Jim Nabors…then if the album you are thinking of shows up, I believe they have a drop down window where you can buy the thing! I am in love with that web site. Sadly, they have never heard of Yogi Yorgeson, though…sigh…

There’s also a mobile version of pandora that you can install on your internet-enabled phone. Then you can listen to it on the go! But I’m not sure if you have to have a smart phone for it… I have a blackberry and it works like a charm.

In the car, I listen to my CD that plays “Gabriel’s Message” and “Breath of Heaven” alternately, over and over and over again, with no other songs thrown in…

    Because I’m OCD.
