Spirit Four and More

I currently have as a student one of the most imaginative kids I’ve ever taught. His fantasies are extraordinarily well-developed. I enjoy it when he describes them to me because it reminds me of my own middle school years, when I used to play in the woods with Eric Puryear and Randy Roth.

This student developed a secret society at school called The Spirit Four and More. I was honored to be asked to join. I would regularly get updates on the shifting organizational patterns within the group. My immediate superior changed twice. My job title changed to “spy”.

The student announced to me yesterday that he would be leaving our school after Christmas. In anticipation of his leaving, he developed trading cards based on the Spirit Four and More. I was graced with a card, which he gave to me. And now my title is “thief”.

The bottom of the card says: 5/ and no.20.

    I’m sad he’s leaving…

But I think it’s cool you’ve been carded.

Aw, I’m also sorry that he’s going.

I think you’re actually “The if”, which is pretty cool – you’re an enigma!

I bet he let you into the club because you use a green pen.

Wow, That’s awesome! Is this the first time you’ve been part of a secret society? And will the society continue once he’s gone? Or have you blown that chance by announcing to the world the society’s existence?

Tell your readers the premise behind this group, too – if I recall correctly, one who joins takes a vow to uphold and protect the faith…as in The Faith. I thought that part was the best. Not a lot of “secret societies” have that as their foundation. [I’m pretty sure it’s not really what the Masons are all about, for example.]

Wonder if this group can survive his absence once he departs the community? Hmmm…

I received a special card from this same student on Friday. It’s still at school, but from what I remember it has “fire” power. I wonder if it will be worth something one day when he is famous!
