Yesterday was the Fourth of July in Seward, the Fourth of July City. The forecast was for rain all day long. Lots of rain. It was an exciting Fourth anyway. Denis is here! I finally got a Baltimorean to come to Seward for the Fourth. Well, actually, he’s more Filipino than Baltimorean, but I’ll take what I can get.
We started the morning with a prayer service in the rain, the Firing of the Anvil, and a pancake breakfast. After a short recovery at Lloyd and Lauren’s we checked out the cloggers. I love watching the cloggers every year.
I love the food at lunch time. I got my obligatory fresh-squeezed lemonade. The sugar wasn’t completely dissolved, so it was crunchy. I also got a french dip sandwich. The dip was salty.
There is a free trolley service. Tim and Tara wanted to go for a ride, so we took the circuit. It was fun.
After another break at Lloyd and Lauren’s, we went to the parade. It was long this year, and was great. We missed Lauren and her cheering, but we did our best. There were six Czech queens!
ONE
TWO
THREE
FOUR
FIVE
We interrupt the Czech queens for an awesome mullet on Tractor Guy:
SIX
After the parade, we had a picnic at Brent and Sandra’s. It was fun. Denis jumped on a trampoline for the first time.
The firework display was canceled because they thought it was going to rain, but it didn’t. We put on our own small firework display.
Sorry I didn’t throw better candy at you. I panicked after the Tootsie Roll Pop hit the branches of the tree and made you settle for bubble gum. I’ll try better next time.
By the way, your corner was the most fun.
Why were you in the parade? Are you our governor now?
Not the governor. I am a Czech queen.
Seven! Seven Czech queens! Ah-ha-ha-haaaaa…….
I fear you’ve been watching the Count too often on Sesame Street, Lauren…
*sigh* Is there anything better than Czech queens on the 4th of July? I’m so sad to have missed the parade. Maybe next time we’re gone Lloyd and I can participate via Skype on a giant screen in Brent’s yard.
Denis didn’t wet his pants because he’s never given vaginal birth … right Beth?
You know, I think that might be a side effect of pregnancy in general (I’m the token c-section mom).
Yes. Yes. Indeed. 😀
Yay! Another great Seward 4th! With free rides! (but why are there Czech queens again?)
We had good home fireworks too…they were purchased in PA, where you can get the high ones. And males will be males…what with the combining of bottle rockets & firecrackers & who knows what else. I just know it’s not very comforting to hear from the sides, ‘OK, RUN!’
Was this the Independence Day when there was a huge Fire works accident and I was afraid of fire works for the next few years?
