It Tastes Like Burning

I thought I had gotten rid of my stomach acid problems. I thought I was managing it by diet and by avoiding excessive use of ibuprofen.

But the last three days I’ve had a terribly acid stomach. Yesterday was the worst so far. I was crunching Tums pretty early in the morning, then again around 11, then after lunch. When I got home I used baking soda. I usually just put a spoonful of baking soda in my mouth, then swish some water and swallow. Last night I noticed a warning on the box not to do this. There is even a warning of injury if you do it. What, will you explode?

To avoid *serious* injury?!?

Anyway, I’m hoping today will be better in the acid stomach department. I’m going to really watch what I eat and try to calm things. Until then, it’ll be Tums and baking powder for snacks! Mmmm…

Will you explode? Are you kidding? You sound like a human volcano when you take that stuff.

I think it might be time that you went to a specialist.

And time to put the front end of your bed up on blocks. And get the light down your stomach test…you’ll love that one!

My prediction? That acidic stomach burning thingy ought to dissipate, oh, about June 15th, 2011…for about two months, at least…

…so I actually started to read the instructions for proper use of baking soda as an antacid and it never actually says you should drink it either. You just keep adding 1/2-teaspoonfuls every two hours to a small glass of water and, magically, that takes away your symptoms, it would seem. [I’m sure you’d already tried that, though, before ingesting it, right?] Ain’t science great? “Better living through chemistry”!

I think you’ll just end up like this guy did – http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/06/07/article-0-018002D800000578-910_468x486.jpg
