Fuzzy-Headed Counting

Yesterday the Middle School Wrestling Team sold Chick-fil-A at school lunch for a fund raiser. It’s nice because Chick-fil-A delivers however many sandwiches and nuggets you order, they leave them in heated carriers, and you sell them. Easy!

Until the money counting starts.

After school and wrestling practice was over, I was supposed to take the carriers back to our local Chick-fil-A and pay them. I counted the money out and couldn’t believe it: we had only barely broke even. I hadn’t counted everything yet, but it looked like our profit would be only a few dollars. Dang.

But when I took the stacks of one dollar bills to pay our share, the manager had a confused look on his face as he counted and re-counted the money. After calling me over, he said I had given him $100 too much. I’m usually so careful with such things… But it really was a busy day, and I was kind of tired…

I wasn't in the cafeteria when they delivered. They left this behind as the invoice.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – numbers are hard.

Are they going for an ancient Rome thing with their round receipts? They need to get with the rectangular times.

When I have a fund raiser, I like to take the final wad of cash and throw it down at a table of students and say, “Here’s your blood money!”

Very good, Lloyd. You made me laugh aloud. I think this is because I’m picturing you with your longer hair, dark beard, and olive green nose-warmer.

Yippee….I think I can finally help you with something Brad. I was an excellent banker. I was a fast, accurate money counter. Keep in mind next time that there are no ‘ands’ when counting cash. You’re welcome.

I don’t understand… No ‘ands’? Then what comes after 999?

      • Peggy

I forget not everyone has access to all the thoughts swirling around my brain at any given moment.

        When counting ones…don’t count 1 & 2 & 3…… (get it?)

Was that hand bell humor there, Ms. Ding-a-ling? Or are you having a Lawrence Welk flashback? (“…and uh one and uh two and…”)

          • Peggy

Why yes Carol….it was an attempt at handbell humor.
