It Just Ain’t Right

I didn’t get any work done over Thanksgiving break. Well, I did get some schoolwork done, but I didn’t get anything done at home. I had plans. I had fantastic plans.

Last night, time was running out, so I decided to pay the bills. I would at least get one thing done. It was time to renew my subscription to Taunton’s Fine Gardening, the best gardening magazine this side of the Atlantic. It was also time to pay my phone bill. Out of curiosity, I decided to look at the details. There’s a whole section dedicated to money I must pay to the government for using my phone.

“Total Credits, Adjustments & Other Charges” $7.54
“Total Government Fees & Taxes” $6.07

Total money I must pay that doesn’t have anything to do with using a phone: $13.61

I’m tellin’ you – switch to telepathy. It’s totally free!

Seriously, I have thought about switching to a pay-as-you go phone. I never call anyone, so I’d be money ahead.

    Geez, what is this…Ancient Rome?

If a lawyer and an IRS agent were both drowning, and you could only save one of
them, would you: (1) go to lunch or (2) read the paper?

Hey now! My brother-in-law is a lawyer!! I’d go to lunch. 😉

My cousin-in-law is a lawyer too. I’d go to a movie!

YOU WIN! By that I mean the “Lauren usually cracks me up best here but today Peggy did” non-contest contest. Congratulations. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery of your valuable prize.

Brad, we have been doing a slow burn about those fees for years now. The fees are greater than the cost to use the doggone phone – because we don’t; we make all our calls from our cells. If only someone I love dearly would cut the cord/chord/line and get broadband or something else that the computer could use to connect to the ‘net, we could be done with this insanity. I feel your pain. “It just ain’t right” is right. (Could a reputable libertarian fix this, I wonder? Do we blame the dems or reps for this mess – or both?)
