The last few days I’ve come into my classroom, I’ve been greeted with a wonderful smell. At first I couldn’t figure out what it was. Had a woman ghost just visited my room and left a trail of sweet perfume behind? Had someone installed an air freshener in my absence? Was I having one of those strokes where you smell phantom smells?
No. My Orange Jasmine (Murraya paniculata) was blooming. And boy was it blooming. These clusters of flower buds have been present since summer time. And now they’re all bursting open and filling the room with a sweet and delicious smell. If I could eat something that smelled like these flowers, I would take second and third helpings. Mmm…
It is unfair that my monitor doesn’t have a smell function.
Are those green bumps unopened buds or tiny fruits? Maybe you can eat it!
They are fruits. I really want to try one after they ripen for a while. I should probably not do it on a weekend when there’s no one around though, just in case.
Are any of your students noticing it also?
No. By the time they come into the room, it smells like coffee. I drink coffee every single day now. Who woulda thought that would happen? Weird. And it’s decaffeinated. I drink it for the taste. Double weird. And I just used two words that don’t follow the “I before E rule”. Triple weird.
That is as crazy as drinking caffeine-frei deit Pepsei.
(Too far, huh?)
