Middle School Meadow

At school, there’s a grassy hill that some of us have been trying to convert into a “meadow” full of buttterfly- and bee-friendly flowers. We’ve tossed pounds and pounds of flower seeds on it, and we’ve planted some things from our own gardens. But it still looks like a grassy hill. We’ve decided that that grass is too thick and doesn’t let light get to the seeds. It needed to be cut.

Yesterday, I met my co-worker Debbie, and we cleaned the hill off. I used the school’s trimmer, which is WAY more powerful than mine. I stripped the hill down to dirt, and Debbie raked it all away. It was glorious to be working in a garden! I think the seeds will have a better chance of growing now …if rain doesn’t just wash them all down the hill.

HILL BEFORE:
Thick, thick grass.

HILL AFTER:
The sign is from the PTL. It says 'Middle School Meadow'.

What a fantastic idea! That’s going to be beautiful when it’s done. Good job, you guys.

There is a burn-ed out patch on the side of Highway 34 where a young man died in a horrible car wreck while running from the cops. It looks so bleak, I’ve though that would be a good place for some seed bombs.

FYI – I saw some of our athletes running up the hill to practice the other day. It might be wise to put some sort of barrier up or mention this to coaches that it simply isn’t a hill, but a hill with a purpose.

Nice job Brad & Debbie! I sure hope you get some blooms this spring! You will post a picture of it, won’t you?
