Finished

I realized I haven’t shown the final results of the stump carving that someone was doing up the street from me. The last time I posted about it was in September. The artist finished his work sometime before Christmas, but by then I was almost always driving past the stump in the dark because the Early Dark was upon us. As it started to be lighter in the mornings this spring, I would notice the art, but would be in such a hurry I couldn’t take a picture.

I finally remembered. And here is the progression:

From August 31:
Here I thought it would be a hawk or eagle.

From September 5:
Here I thought it would be a parrot.

And a current picture:
Is it a pigeon?
That’s a corsage the bird is wearing. The owners decorate it all the time. That garland is usually wrapped around the bird’s neck like a scarf. Ha! I love driving past this every day. I hope the carver does more stuff in our neighborhood.

That is so sweet! I admire sculptors, because it’s not like painting or drawing. You goof up, there ain’t no do-overs or white-out. That could have been a beakless bird, but they got it right.

That’s a very nice sculpture! Kudos to your neighbor! Do they have homing pigeons? Do you suppose the artwork could be a homage to one that was sent to deliver a coursage, but never returned?

While we’re on the topic of tree art…..check out this tree, loving created by…..nature!

I love that. It makes me want a cat sculputure in my yard, so I can decorate it for the seasons.

Sure beats those holiday dress-up geese they’re always selling in the catalogues that come to our house….
