Triple Double

I saw a commercial for something called a Triple Double Oreo recently. I was intrigued. I knew I had to try it. On my way home from school yesterday, I needed to stop at the grocery store for dinner ingredients. It was the perfect opportunity to acquire some Oreos. It was fun waiting until after dinner to try them. The anticipation was delicious.

After tasting them, I would have to say these are just okay. Mostly I didn’t care for the chocolate-flavored filling. Maybe I’m an Oreo purist, but to me it seemed to be a corruption of the traditional Oreo flavor. But it was fun to pull the cookie apart and eat the ‘stuff’ first. Interestingly, the middle wafer isn’t specially made. It’s an outside wafer. The ‘printing’ is always facing toward the white filling.

In the course of my experimentation, I ate one-third of the package. It was for science! But in the end, I think I would prefer a triple decker Oreo that has only white filling.

It's almost like eating two cookies at once. What a time saver!

What a timesaver, indeed. 🙂 I haven’t had an Oreo in a long time, and that does look intriguing. Maybe a trip to the grocery store is in order.

What did you make for dinner with your ingredients?

I made a ham and noodle casserole that my mom used to make when we were kids. When I first graduated from college, I went through my mom’s recipes and wrote down a bunch of my favorites. This was one of them. Ham, noodles, cheese, cream of mushroom soup, onion, and butter. Mmm… It was so gooood…

Mmmmm…I Love that casserole, with a capital Love.

Mom hasn’t made it in ages, and I never have. What the what?

            8oz pkg noodles
            1.5 c chopped cooked ham
            1 c grated cheese
            1 can mushroom soup
            1 can chopped mushrooms
            0.5 c milk
            2 tbs butter
            0.33 c chopped onion

Cook noodles. Combine hame and 0.75 c cheese. Alternate layers of noodles with hamd and cheese in greased 1 qt. baking dish. Mix soup, milk, and onion and pour over casserole. Sprinkle top with cheese and dot with butter. Bake 20-30 min at 375 degrees. Serves 6. Or 1 really hungry with some leftovers.

Of course, you can tinker with this recipe a little. Next time, I might try more soup and add a little garlic. But it was delicious as-is. My mom uses dried beef instead of ham and uses elbow macaroni. I used egg noodles.

I like that you use decimals in your recipe.

Eating two cookies at once…what a time saver….HA!

I usually take off one cookie side of an Oreo & give it to the dog. How would I eat this one I wonder? Can you mail me one?

Peggy, our late Cocker Spaniel, Lady “I-never-met-a-French-Fry-I-didn’t-like” Frey, would have said, “Let me save you even more time – toss the whole thing down here!” Can’t say what Forrest’s answer would probably be…

I’ve been intrigued by those commercials as well. Can’t say that the presence of chocolate filling would deter me from trying to down at least one row of those from a large box…best I never get them in the house then.
