Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Excited! Disappointed. Excited!

I still browse the free section of Craigslist daily. Yesterday, I was getting impatient waiting for the Baltimore section to update, so I started looking at other areas nearby. While looking at the York, Pennsylvania page, I saw an add for fieldstone. I already have quite a bit of stone in my garden, but I have been wanting more lately. The firepit sort of pops out of nowhere and could really use some stone support. The stone circle where the cherry tree used to grow is pitifully thin. I need more stone!

I contacted the person listed. He said it was an empty lot that had recently had all the trees cut down and it was full of rocks. True, honest-to-goodness, Pennsylvania fieldstone from its natural environment? Woo hoo! I had to go! He said I should take as much as I could and tell my friends. Let me know if you want some. I can tell you how to contact him.

It was an empty lot with giant tree roots pulled out of the ground:
Rough terrain.

My truck was high enough to clear the bumps, but my stupid bald half-flat tires were spinning a lot. One looked so flat I went back to a gas station to put fix-a-flat in it before loading the truck. And then I was too chicken to really load the truck down. What if the tire went flat? I was in the middle of nowhere and more than an hour from home. So I only collected a few choice specimens.
I want to stand them up on their ends.

I am feverish with the idea of collecting more. I think I might actually buy new tires just so I can go back. Real fieldstones! As much as I want! AAAAHHHH!

Yes! Ship some out as soon as you can – a dozen or so should suffice.

I tell you, Brad, it’s going to get harder and harder to tell you to layoff Craigslist if you keep coming up with finds like this. You’ll post pictures of the finished stone use, right?

I will post pictures, but I have to get a proper truckload before I start placing them in the garden. I don’t think I can get tires today, so maybe tomorrow. Then maybe Wednesday afternoon I can go back to get stones. I can’t go Tuesday because of handbells. Unless I take a day off of school… Hmm…

I gotta start checking that list…and checking it twice!

What a beautiful day to go on a treasure hunt! Did you have to dig for the stones or were they just laying around?

(btw: these new stones….that you plan to place on their ends….they’re not additional seating for the firepit, right?)

The stones were just laying around. It was amazing!

I do not intend for them to be stools. Hehe… (Ouch!)

Let’s do the math here: four new truck tires could run you a few humdred clams, but hey – the rocks are all free, so it’s worth it, right? Actually, having non-bald tires as winter approaches sounds like a wise idea around here. Go for it. Then go for more rocks.
