Old Dressing

Wednesday is trash pickup day in my neighborhood, so I was loading up trash bags and taking them to the curb last night. One bag wasn’t entirely full, so I decided to look in my refrigerator for expired dressings and sauces. Holy cow! I did not have a dressing that wasn’t expired. And of the sauces, only a few things were still good. I cleared one and a half shelves in my refrigerator door!

Next week, maybe I’ll look through all the jars of stuff. There seem to be a lot of jars in my refrigerator. Do pickled things go bad once you open them? Is a two-year-old bottle of olives safe to eat?

The flax and ketchup stand alone...

    Mmmmm….. flax & ketchup sandwiches…..

If you ask me, food should be thrown out the minute you suspect it to be expired, but instead you let it rot in your fridge for months.

If you ask Lloyd, “There ain’t no bad food, just weak constitutions.”

Haha! I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone who went looking for more trash….HA!

I was just talking with my friend at lunch yesterday about how I need to go thru all my kithcen cabinets…..because they are busting with too much stuff. I haven’t cleaned them out since I was unemployed…2 years ago! And it’s been a while since I’ve done a frig clean out. Ahhh!

Why am I having a flashback to a particular moving day when an antique tuna salad was discovered at the back of someone’s frig…? I see a pattern here.

Hehe… I still have the fruitcake you gave me for my 33.3 birthday. It’s in my freezer. I’m saving it for a very special occasion.

Holy cow, you need to read this posts and the comments. You will never eat food again. http://www.foodinjars.com/2011/10/canning-101-how-to-get-rid-of-canned-goods-gone-bad/#comments

Ha! One of the commenters says: “That makes me want to throw all my food away!”

I’m sorry to see that you read that article, Lauren. Now what will you and Lloyd eat in order to avoid botulism? Dry macaroni?
