A Call for Attention

As I’ve been coming home from school and walking from my truck to the door, a sweet fragrance has caught my attention. It’s a heavy, spring-like flower smell that beckons me into the garden: “Come work here. Breathe the sweet air. Feel the soft earth.” I have tried to at least walk through the garden if I get home before dark, but I haven’t done any work whatsoever. My garden is neglected. Poor garden.

The wonderful smell is my Osmanthus heterophyllus plant. It blooms this time of year with a wonderful lily-of-the-valley perfume. It seems to have experienced a big growth spurt this year. It’s so much bigger than last year.
The tallest branches come up to my shoulder.

And it is completely covered with little flowers.
I hope the cold snap we're experiencing doesn't destroy them all.

Awwwww. That’s a very nice, yet slightly sad story. Usually when a sweet fragrance beckons to me, it’s cookies saying, “Come eat me. Drink some milk. Skip your dinner.”

Amen – enough said. (Maybe those tiny white blossoms really are a type of cookie, Lauren?)

HA! Yesterday we lost power in our building at work & at 2pm we were sent home. On my way home, the sweet smell of Dunkin Donuts lured me in. After a sweet nap, I had donuts for dinner.

Congrats on your sweet blooms Brad! I miss the videos.

I keep telling myself I’ll do another video when I get the rocks positioned around my garden. But when will I position the rocks? It’s cold and rainy or it’s dark or I don’t feel like it.

It’s the story of my life… I wait to do so many things because I’m waiting for other things to happen first. Maybe I could write a self-help book on that topic… Hmmm… But I won’t write it yet – I’ll wait until after I do another garden movie.

I read this too fast at first and wondered what sweet fragrance could possibly be between your classroom door and your parking space on the campus lot. Rotting refuse, I could have understood….now I get it, though. Pays to read for detail…

Hope today’s “snain” doesn’t knock all the pretty blossoms off prematurely 🙁
