Early Snow

It got really cold here on Friday. The weather forecasts were calling for overnight freezes, so I brought my tropical plants inside. There are three that I’m saving from winter’s cold this year: an Arabian jasmine, a non-vining philodendron, and a calamondin orange. I think this might be the last year for the calamondin orange. It hasn’t flowered or fruited for over a year. I put it in the dining room window, which is one of the sunniest windows in my house. Yesterday I saw something weird: mushrooms. I don’t recognize this variety of mushroom. I will probably break them off and throw them outside. I don’t need mushroom spores flying around my house.

Are they powder-puff mushrooms?

The change in temperatures brought precipitation yesterday. The cold air turned some of the rain into snow. We had snow! In October! Ha!

Goodbye, flowers. See you in the spring.

…and along with the early snow came the early foul weather idiot “if you can’t handle this weather, leave your cars home and take a cab!” drivers, at least in the morning. [Didn’t notice them so much after 5 pm.] Always a nice start to a weekend morning, shaking a fist at your windshield…

It was also our experience that Maryland drivers were particularly awful when the sky just hinted at snowing. Now, though, I’m pretty sure I’m just like them.

Brad, will you break them off inside or outside? ‘Cause what if you break one off and mold spores go flying everywhere!!!!! (That last bit is meant to be read in a spooky Halloween voice.)

There’s no snow at Halloween Mother Nature! Did you get all confused…..what with the stores all decorated for Christmas already! I think this is the 1st time I’ve seen so much Christmas before Halloween. I hate that…..can we focus on the holiday at hand please.

    Nice pictures!
