Mulan

My niece Anna has been working for the last several weeks on her parts in a production of the Disney musical “Mulan”. This weekend, her youth theater group is finally performing. I went to watch it yesterday.

The theater is in the Haymarket area of Lincoln, which is a really nice area. It has lots of quirky shops and good restaurants and such. And at least two theaters, from what I saw while walking around a little. Here is the theater Anna was in:
It's a nice space. And the set pieces were really good.

The production was really good. This is a program sponsored by the theater that would take the place of summer camp or something. The kids did a really good job. Anna was an especially good singer. I could hear her voice well. I was (and am) very proud of her. Good job, Anna!

She played three different parts.

Yea for summer theatre groups!! Yea for being just scizophrenic enough to play three different roles in the same story!! Yea for a clear singing voice to make your uncle proud. Nicely done, Miss Anna.

This brought back fun memories of a summer camp I attended during ele-middle years. One year we did a melodrama as part of our program of field tripping, roasting marshmallows, dancing, music, crafts, yadda yadda…I was supposed to be the narrator, as I recall, and one of my lines had the word “laboratory” in it. I was supposed to read it like the mad scientist (e.g., “lah – BOR – ah-tore-ee”), but when the director stopped everything to ask why it was sounding more like the fancy word for rest room I got such a laughing fit…I think I was replaced soon afterward…

That is wonderful! I know she was working hard on it. When she first came to visit the kittens she told me about her three parts and how excited she was. I’m glad it went so well!

I’ve been to a production at a theater in the Haymarket, but it wasn’t that one. I think. It was a long time ago and I have a terrible memory.
