Visiting a Friend

Yesterday I didn’t have any obligations at my church, so I was able to visit a different congregation for worship. I pass by St. Thomas More all the time. It’s a Roman Catholic church near my house. I’ve been curious about it for a while, so I went to their 9am service.

The service was nice. All the songs were from their “Gather” hymnal. It is sort of contemporary. There was a lot of refrain singing. I liked it. I sang loud. But the most exciting thing happened during communion – I recognized someone. But to say who it was, I have to tell a story:

On my way back from school for the last couple of years, since I often traveled at the same time of day, I often saw the same people and things. One of those people was a walker. She walked quickly and it made her curly hair bounce. It was a cheery sight. The more I saw her, the happier I was to see her. I almost came to feel like I knew her… like she was my friend. I often thought about stopping when I saw her to let her know how much the sight of her cheered me, but I couldn’t think of a way to do it that wasn’t creepy. So I remained her anonymous friend.

Yesterday during communion, several people came forward to assist, and among them was my walking friend. I was so excited! The urge to rush up and talk to her after church was almost irresistible. I decided to leave quickly. I didn’t want to spoil our imaginary friendship by scaring her.

It's a nice sanctuary.

Ha! I’m glad you know where she goes to church now. 🙂 I’ve thought before about visiting the different churches in town just to see the insides. I’ve seen a bunch of fellowship halls but not a lot of sanctuaries. Did the other people sing loud or were you the Lone Lutheran ?

I have to say – look at all the puddles in your picture. Can we please have some of your rain??

I’m glad you got to see your friend at church! I think you could have said something to her….. the way you bounce makes me so happy, I’ve liked watching you exercise for quite a while and , did you know we’ve been friends for months… You’re right, it was best you didn’t say anything. 😉

Was she wearing anything with shiny buttons?
