Fatty Lumpkin 2?

Happy Birthday, Beth! Yay!

Back in 2007, I had a lipoma (a fat bump) removed from my shoulder. It resulted in one of my grosser postings. I noticed a few months ago that I had a new bump, but this time it was on the other shoulder. I went to the doctor last week to ask him about it. He said it could be another lipoma, but it was kind of deep for that. He suggested I do an ultrasound and consult a surgeon. He then proceeded to look through my file and ask me about other old medical things I’ve experienced, and in all the excitement, he forgot to give me the prescription papers for the ultrasound and surgeon.

Yesterday I went to the doctor’s office to pick up the papers. While I was there, I decided to schedule the ultrasound. The woman at the desk said: “Can you do it right now?” Of course I could, so in I went. The woman doing the ultrasound said it didn’t look like a typical lipoma, but added that they are often atypical. A radiologist will look at the pictures and file a report with a doctor. My appointment with the surgeon is in two weeks.

This was before the scan. The woman rushed me out, so I couldn't get a picture of the scan.

What, then, are the current theories: a small cat ball – without an interior jingling bell – somehow stuck subcutaneously up there?! some sort of run-away hematoma from a forgotten blow to the shoulder?! Perhaps a gym injury?!

Hoping whatever it is that its dissolution or removal won’t impact arm mobility and take you out of your gardening avocation – that would be very upsetting, and to mor ethan just you. Will be talking to God about this…

I am so curious! You are a marvel of medical curiosities, so keep us posted. You are so brave to take photos at the doctor’s office. Of course, now you can just pretend you’re checking your phone, huh?

Heh. When I google ‘lipoma’, the wikipedia entry says, “A lipoma is a benign tumor composed of adipose tissue.” Heh heh – ‘adipose‘.

It’s nice that your lumps are easily seen & and can be pretty easily chopped out.

Will the surgeon remove it on your appt. or just look at it? Has anyone given you any ideas about what it could be besides a lipoma?
