Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Buried Treasure

I was looking in my home improvement books to read about wiring because I’m getting ready to install a new light fixture box in my downstairs bathroom. When I opened one of the books, some envelopes fell out. They were marked with my own handwriting: “OIL BURNER” and “EMERGENCY”. I faintly remember putting some envelopes in this book. I had thought that if I put a little bit of cash in them each month, after a while I would have enough for a new oil burner, or for whatever emergency repair I would have to do to my house.

Hidden riches!

I was excited to see these envelopes. How much money would be inside them? I anxiously looked inside.

Nothing. There was nothing in the envelopes. Brad From The Past really let me down this time. He usually treats me really well. This time? Not so much.

C’mon, Brad From The Past – we count on you! Maybe Brad From The Future sneaked back in his time machine and stole from you!

I’ve never trusted BRTF – he has shifty eyes.

    That’s heartbreaking. 🙁

BT (before Thurman) I had strategic envelopes like that hidden in suitcase pockets, underwear drawers, etc. – my momma raised me to be fiscally responsible and independent so I tried to squirrel away for all sorts of rainy times. Somehow, over the last twenty three+ years, that went the way of all flesh, too. Now we have credit union accounts here, there, and everywhere based on automatic and regular transfers from direct deposits – we never even miss the money but it comes in handy at times like this when, say, a humongous property tax bill is due even though our assessments went down 20% from last year (who, me, bitter?!)

Save those empty envelopes, though – when you get your next call you can always START this great habit, right?

Dang. I’m sorry your buried treasure came up short.

I hope you didn’t feel as bad as this guy. (I actually watched this live)
