Free!

I’ve said before that I am a compulsive Craigslist visitor. I love looking at the “free” listings. It’s all this usable stuff that people are giving away for free! I hardly ever take an interest, because I have a ton of stuff I should be getting rid of myself.

But yesterday was different – yesterday I saw something I could actually use. I’ve been looking for a tall chest of drawers for my bathroom. I want it to be tall so I can put a lamp on it. I want it to be drawers so I can have some storage. I’ve been searching for a while now. I find stuff that is just what I’m looking for, but it’s too expensive… or it’s inexpensive, but it looks awful. Yesterday on Craigslist there was a tall chest of drawers. The person called it a “lingerie chest?”. (It’s funny – now that I google that phrase, I see a wide selection of exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.) We swapped four emails, and I was on my way to get it.

It appeared to be a couple who was moving. They had a lot of stuff in trucks, and the wife said she was off to get some pizza. I got the lingerie chest loaded and was back home again quickly. The entire transaction took one hour and zero dollars. And I have just what I wanted! Woo hoo! I’ll probably put some different drawer-pulls on it, but that’s a small expense compared to buying a whole new thing.

Don't worry Lauren - I checked it for bedbugs before bringing it inside.

Nothing wrong with free, especially when it looks that good. Great non-purchase!

Ha! You know me too well, as that was the very first thing I was going to say. I’m still not too sure about it, but other than that, excellent score!

Is this for the upstairs or downstairs bathroom?

…and you can stain it to match whatever you already have? Doesn’t get much better than that! It looks sturdy, too. You really hit the motherload on this one, friend – hearty congrats, and happy shellacing (sp?) or whatever you plan to do with it.
