Flowers in December

Something colorful caught my eye on my way out to my truck the other day. My camellia had an open bloom! The buds get thicker and thicker this time of year, until they encounter a warm day, when they all burst open. If no warm weather comes, the buds sometimes just fade or fall off. I’ll have to keep an eye on them from now on. It’s camellia season!
It's PINK!

That’s not all that’s blooming though. The pansies on my front steps are looking great:
There's even a lovely piece of trash to the right of the flower pots.

And in the back yard, the bright yellow Ajania pacifica is blooming. In the past, I’ve called this a meatflower because it was covered with flies. The actual common name of the plant is “Silver and Gold”, because the leaves have that silver edge to them, and the flowers are yellow. It’s a great plant – it’s so care-free. And it blooms in December, for goodness sakes!
I haven't seen any flies on them this year.

I think I need a Meat plant… how much sun does it need? Better question, how much shade can it tolerate. I’m wondering if I can place it under a maple near some ferns… oh, better yet, I will dig up some hostas that are getting chewed by the deer…

I would’ve said full sun, but I’ve never tried them elsewhere, and my quick search seems to say they do well in shade. They are a relative of chrysanthemums, so a clipping or two during the summer keeps them from getting too leggy.

Putting them where the hostas were will give them enough sun, I think. Another summer project!

‘know whatcha’ mean. Red gerania on side porch steps in full bloom this week as well – really brightens the day, doesn’t it? Enjoy!!

Oh I like the name “Silver and Gold” much better than meatflower. Que the music…Mr. Ives if you will.

You house must look just lovely. Me….I got no bloomin’ going on.
