Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

New to Me

One of the things I’ve really enjoyed so far about being in Maui is all the new plants and animals I’m seeing. It’s exciting to encounter so many new and unfamiliar varieties. Even just a walk through my hosts’ back yard is incredible. They have a lime tree, and orange tree, a papaya, banana trees, and a whole bunch of flowers. The plants I recognize are sold as houseplants in Baltimore. It’s so cool.
Gorgeous!

Many of the birds are outright unrecognizable, though I have at least identified the families of some of them. I’ve seen finches I think. And mourning doves of some kind. There are some birds that sit outside my window in the morning and make a noise that reminds me so much of a Star Wars droid, I had to record it. Here is my recording:

And here is the Imperial Viper droid from The Empire Strikes Back:

Ha! The recording is cool enough, but the facts that you found links to the actual sound – that makes it hilarious! Your memory for movies is quite impressive.

That garden cracks me up. Forgive me for not being able to distinguish between gardens – they all look the same to me – but it looks like your garden at its most lush. It’s gorgeous!

I agree with you Lauren…..that garden looks so much like Brad’s except it has a grass path instead of a stone one.

      Beautiful sights & sounds!

Brad, are there plants that bloom at different times of the year over there….or is it basically the same year round?

      • Brad

There are seasonal flowers. This is winter, so less is blooming now. I’m told that the warmest part of the year is September and October. Once I’m a little more settled, I’ll be researching garden plants here. I have a big empty lanai that needs some potted plants.

Sure beats “Pollywannacracker”, doh knit? Very cool…be sure to post a photo of this Droid-like creature if you ever catch it.

Are you preparing a Hawaiian word of the week for us yet? I wait with baited breath. (Yea, about that – dental appointment scheduled for two Saturdays from now… 😉 )
