Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Grains? Check.

I went grocery shopping this weekend. I completely restocked my breakfast cereal supply. My cereal consumption had lessened over time, but my time in Maui reawoke my cereal cravings. Now I’m back to always having the four categories represented in my cupboard at all times: Chocolatey, Fruity, Blonde, and Healthy.

Some categories are duplicated.

While I personally would agree with every choice you made there, sir (yum!), it appears the “healthy” category is a bit sparsely populated…even the honey nut part of the Cheerios may be pushing things, no? I see no shredded wheat, raisin bran, muesli, or the like – so define “healthy”?

Then there’s the type of milk to use with them: almond? soy? skim? Tell me you don’t douse them in whole milk, too!

The Rice Krispies is the only Healthy cereal. I categorize as Healthy any cereal that requires me to put sugar on it. Honey Nut Cheerios doesn’t qualify under that condition.

I am eating Life cereal right now – what is it’s category? I am guessing Blonde or Healthy.

    • Brad

      Healthy. Life requires sugar.

I respectfully disagree. Life is sweetened perfectly on its own. (Are those fighting words with you?)

        • Brad

Hehe… No, they aren’t fighting words. I’m a cereal libertarian. Leave me to eat cereal how I want, and you can eat your cereal any way you want, even if you want to mix different kinds (which horrifies me).

So do you put sugar on the Rice Krispies? Thus shifting it from the healthy category to the blonde catergory.

Your cereal cabinet looks like our cereal cabinet … from when I was a kid!
My four brothers ate most of the “fun, not-so-good-for-you” cereal. I was a Rice Krispies fan – no sugar added (Peggy). I would eat them as a snack with my bare hands.

What is a “Blonde” cereal? I am being totally edumacated with your blog ….but, then, I’m usually entertained each day, too…Thanks for that….<3 Aunt Bev 🙂

Blonde cereal is any kind that is sweetened, but not chocolatey or fruity. In the picture above, Cap’n Crunch is an example of a Blonde cereal. Blonde cereals tend to be yellow or light brown.
